Packing 500 horsepower with its 7.0-liter V-8, the high-powered Z06 Corvette will be introduced by Chevrolet early next year. Sources are speculating that Z06 coupe will be introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January, followed days later by the convertible introduction at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

A Chevrolet spokesperson has informed us that C6 convertibles are moving through the manufacturing validation process according to schedule, which means that production of validation convertibles (those used by GM internally to validate that all applicable quality, durability, safety, etc. standards are being met) will yield to production of customer cars in the next few days.

Though spy shots of the Z06 version of the C6 Corvette dont appear to reveal much, we can discern that engineer David Hills latest high-performance creation may come with a first-ever-for-Z06 removable hardtop.

It appears to be a temporary setback, but due to problems with the 6 speed manual transmission, all Corvette assembly has been temporarily halted as of noon, October 6th, 2004. For more up-to-date information visit the Digital Corvette forums.

Whats it like to be lost amidst 10,692 parked Corvettes? If you were at the Great Gorilla of Corvette events, basically a county fair for Corvettes, at Mid America Motorworks annual weekend Funfest that included ten C6s with those awesome upgrades direct from the Chevy factory, youd have found out when the roadsters all wheeled in to Mike Yagers vast spread among the cornfields of Effingham, Illinois.
