The National Corvette Museum Board of Directors, at its April 26, 2003 meeting, authorized the commencement of fundraising for a building expansion anticipated to approximately double the size of the Museum. The Board mandated that funding for the expansion must come exclusively from donations. Preliminary architectural drawings which will enhance the contemporary landmark design of the Museum will be officially unveiled in June 2003 as part of the Museums celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Corvette. Fundraising goals will also be announced at that time.

High above the celebration of one American icon, another legend in transportation history -- the Goodyear Blimp -- is scheduled to look down on the festivities. A Goodyear Blimp is scheduled to fly the Nashville skies on June 27 and 28th and will provide coverage for the Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration, including the parade.

05/03/03 signifies a symbolic relationship to 53 - Corvettes first year of production. Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, CA will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Corvette on May 3, with a record gathering of Corvette owners showcasing their cars, a historic display of Corvettes representing each year of production, as well as world famous and custom models. Legendary Corvette owners and celebrities are expected to attend. The Corvette Day display will be on view to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is included with the price of Museum admission.
